For many years now, I have slept on the floor- a Japanese-style sleep system- and am also a side sleeper. Consequently, a firm pillow is a must.
While most of you are likely less austere, there will be benefits to using one of these pillows, even on a traditional bed.
Yes, there is a slight scent, but it's not unpleasant; something like a breeze wafting over a distant wheat field. I rather like it. These pillows are not as quiet as your traditional feather pillow - sounding something like a breeze in a wheat field, to continue with the metaphor - but you will probably toss and turn a lot less than you do with a pillow that's constantly in your face or not supporting your neck.
I recommend buying a small quantity of replacement hulls as they will crush over time and may need replenishment. Slight adjustments may or may not be required to get things dialed in.
I have worn out several over the decades. Some were better quality than others, and this one seems well-made. The seams look good, the materials are excellent, and I especially like the detail on the zipper. There is an inside flap to keep the hulls out of the zipper teeth and a "garage" to park the pull-tab out of the way (see photos).
If you are sleeping on a memory foam mattress, the weight of the standard size could be a concern. Or not. The weight will not be an issue sleeping on the floor or a firm mattress.
I am happy with this purchase: great price, quality materials, and well-constructed.
